IESL Fall 2014 Social Gathering

This past Friday we had our fall semester social gathering to kick off the 2014-2015 academic year. In attendance were from left to right, student members, Anita Belfiore, and Ariadna Sánchez-Hernández; IESL Director, Emilia Alonso-Marks; and permanent members, Danny Moates, Chao-Yang Lee, and Li Xu (Associate Director for Research).

Our student member, Ariadna Sánchez-Hernández, will give a colloquium for the Department of Linguistics. The title of her talk is: Pragmatic Routines during Study Abroad Programs: the Impact of Acculturation and Intensity of Interaction.

Mary E. Beaton and Hannah Washington, Ph.D. candidates from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The Ohio State University, will give a colloquium for our Institute. The title of their talk is: The (De)meaning of Place Names: A Pragmatic and Sociolinguistic Analysis of Favelado 'Ghetto.'
